You ever notice that in various Christian denominations, particularly the Baptist and Pentecostals, that they pick n choose what they want to obey in what is popularly called the “great commission”? Take the Baptists for an example: they will ‘water baptise,’ but not speak in tongues, take up serpents, or drink any deadly thing knowing it will not hurt them. Why are they only obeying ‘some' of what the Lord commanded if the “great commission" is for the church today?
That is, if the “great commission" is in effect for the church today, where does the authority come from that says believers get to pick and choose which commandments the Lord Jesus gave in the “great commission" to obey? I don't see Pentacostal preachers either, for another example, taking that can of Ajax and swallowing a big gulp of it down knowing that it will not hurt them. Have the sick always recovered when they have laid hands upon them? Which is it? Is the church to obey the Lord Jesus and His commands or not?
The Lord Jesus said:
(Mark 16:15-18 KJ) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (17) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
2 Tim 2:15 and "rightly dividing the word of truth" is your answer to all denominational cornfusion:
.
(2 Timothy 2:15 KJ) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
.
That is, taking from Israel's program and trying to live by it in the dispensation of grace that we live in today (Eph 3 King James), not only will not work, but it is spiritual larceny.
